I didn't have plans for Valentines Day other than wanting to try fixing up my room. Thursdays are usually the day that I am by myself since my aunts and uncle go to their charismatic thing. Then B told me if I wanted to eat at Yojies because Eugene, a friend of ours was inviting. I didn't have plans and I haven't tried this restaurant so yeah sure.
There was a good hour wait. What do you expect it was Valentines Day. The space was really tiny and the dining place was just in the middle of the space. There were tables along the walls but it was more for waiting rather than dining. Finally we got our seats. I guess because it was busy and it seems like there were only 3 people going around what looks like a 25 seating capacity oblong table, it took some time before we got the menus. Well, its not as if they had a complicated menu to begin with. It was just either "Shabu-shabu" which is plain boiling water or "Sukiyaki" which was the sweet one. The difference was only in the kind and amount of meat that we would want. The three of us got "Sukiyakis". B and I wanted to share but our server said it was so busy so they are not allowing people to share. Her logic lost me but okay plus she looked kind of annoyed that we were sharing. So fine, we each ended up getting the "Geisha" which is 5oz of beef while Eugene got the "Samurai" which is 8oz of beef.
Since, we each have our own burners, not long our pots of "sukiyakis" came along with the vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, mushroom, carrots) and noodles. This is the good thing about shabu-shabu style of dining - there is little to no wait for your food to get to you. Or so I thought. My two other companions already have their raw egg, veggies and noodles while I still didn't have mine. One of the other servers was psychic though or she just saw the confused look on my face and told me that my plate was coming. I guess they ran out of plates outside since the place was packed and someone was just prepping it. It took awhile for it to get to me so I just let my companions eat ahead since we were really hungry. But as soon as it came, it was non-stop eating. The soup was really good. Not too sweet but good enough. At first I was scared that I didn't have enough broth but I did. The beef was tender and thinly sliced. I just wished they cut the veggies smaller since it was really hard and not to mention hot to bite into those. Also, it would help if the noodles were cut in half. Someone could choke on those long things. The burners could have been a bit closer to the chairs too. Either I just have short arms or that table was really wide.
All in all in was a satisfying meal. My only complain was our server's initial facial expression. I know it probably annoys them when people split the meal but she could have done a better job at hiding it. Also, knowing how busy it was going to be, it would have helped if there were more people serving. It was Eugene's treat so in some sense she was lucky. Had I've been the one who paid, I would still have given her a tip because I do have plans of going back but only enough and not my usual amount.
